Perez wary of rival teams disrupting Verstappen battle

Image
Sergio Perez admits that the possibility of rival teams disrupting his championship battle with Max Verstappen is a concern. The opening five races of the 2023 F1 season have been dominated by Red Bull, with Verstappen and Perez claiming three and two race wins respectively. Their closest challenger, Fernando Alonso, sits 30 points behind second-placed Perez in the World Championship standings, while Verstappen leads his teammate by 14 points. The squad hold a 122-point advantage over Aston Martin in the Constructors' table, and Mercedes and Ferrari are further back in third and fourth places. Despite this, Perez remains wary of the threat that other teams could pose should they progress during the season. Bottas: I can 'relate' to Perez's fight for F1 title

Image
Valtteri Bottas feels he can empathise with Sergio Perez as he battles Max Verstappen for the 2023 Formula 1 world title. During his five-year spell at Mercedes, Bottas was able to beat Lewis Hamilton on occasion in both qualifying and races, but was unable to sustain his bid for the title over the course of a season. The Finn won 10 races to Hamilton's 50 between 2017 and 2021, finishing runner-up in both 2019 and 2020. He ultimately left for Alfa Romeo for 2022, and feels in a similar position to Perez - who is fighting reigning double champion Verstappen for a maiden title this term.
