Image
Real Madrid Travel to Germany for the first leg of their last-16 Champions League tie against RB Leipzig on Tuesday evening. In terms of historical pedigree, there is no comparison between Madrid and Leipzig. When a certain energy drink company founded the modern iteration of RB - which stands for Rasenballsport (lawn sports) of course - in 2009, Madrid had already won Europe's ultimate prize nine times. Madrid have claimed a further five Champions League trophies in Leipzig's lifetime are gunning for a sixth. Here's the lineup that Carlo Ancelotti may deploy to help the club extend its continental hegemony. Champions League last 16 draw: Arsenal face Porto; Barcelona drawn against Napoli

The draw for the last 16 of the 2023/24 Champions League has been concluded, with some mouthwatering Game s on the horizon. Arsenal will face Porto in the last 16. The two sides met at this stage in 2009/10, and it was Arsenal who had the last laugh. Reigning champions Manchester City must get through Copenhagen on their quest to defend their title. The Danish side advanced at the expense of Manchester United in the group stage but Pep Guardiola's men will be determined to avoid a similar fate. Barcelona have a tricky clash with Napoli to look forward to, while Clasico rivals Real Madrid have a tough tie with RB Leipzig. Red Star vs Man City - Champions League: TV channel, team news, lineups & prediction

Perennial Serbian champions Red Star conclude another unsuccessful Champions League campaign with a visit from holders Manchester City on Wednesday night. Much like their previous two appearances in the competition proper, Red Star will finish bottom of their group. However, in both 2018 and 2019, the Belgrade outfit managed to claim one victory - famously defeating Liverpool five years ago. City do not seem like Red Star's best bet to end this season's winless streak. Pep Guardiola's side may be enduring a sticky patch domestically - Sunday's comeback victory over Luton Town concluded their own four- Game barren spell - but they have been imperious on the continent. Triumphant in all five Champions League Game s thus far, City recorded a season-high tally of shots (37) in a 3-1 win over Red Star in September. Here's everything you need to know about City's bid to extend their perfect group-stage record. What time does Red Star vs Man City kick-off? Location ...

X reacts as Man Utd crash out of Europe with tame defeat to Bayern Munich

Manchester United exited the Champions League with a whimper on Tuesday evening, falling to a pathetic 1-0 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich at Old Trafford. Kinglsey Coman's second-half strike condemned the hosts to their fate, with Erik ten Hag's men unable to produce any sort of response in a tepid affair. It's fair to say that not many people believed Man Utd could pull off a shock at Old Trafford before kick-off, the Red Devils heading into the Game off the back of a 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League last Saturday. Erik ten Hag has 'no regrets' over Man Utd's disappointing Champions League campaign

Image
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag insisted he had "no regrets" about his side's short-lived stay in the Champions League, but warned his players they must learn from the experience. The Red Devils crashed out of Europe altogether on Tuesday as a 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich ensured they finished bottom of Group A, behind both Copenhagan and Galatasaray and with just one victory to their name. The result only adds to the pressure on Ten Hag's shoulders but the United boss remained determined to focus on the positives after the game. "We know we want to be more consistent," he told TNT Sports . "Me as a manager, I have to improve the team, help the team progress, guide them, and the players have to take responsibility. We have to do that together. "The players gave everything, we saw the spirit. I have to pay a big compliment for the way they worked together as a team against a good Bayern side. You need energy when the Game is going, and especi...

A battered and bruised Newcastle United host AC Milan on Wednesday night knowing that even a win might not be enough to see them into the knockout stages of the Champions League. Why Man City could be banned from the Champions League

Image
Manchester City have set the standard in English football in recent years and last season finally got over the line in Europe to win the Champions League for the first time as part of a treble. City's modern success all dates back to the arrival of Sheikh Mansour in the blue half of Manchester in 2008, with the Abu Dhabi royal transforming the fortunes of the club through his investment. But the ambition of parent company City Football Group, the Business entity that actually owns Manchester City, is not limited to running just one team and a global multi-club project was conceived in 2013. Now, the group includes 12 different clubs - and their various constituent teams - with arms in men's, women's and youth Football across 12 countries and every continent except Africa. Being part of the same stable as the likes of New York City, Melbourne City and Mumbai City is not a problem when it comes to UEFA rules. But with regulations as they sit technically preventing multiple...

Erik ten Hag: I am responsible for Man Utd's Champions League collapse

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has insisted that ultimate blame for his team’s latest Champions League collapse lies at his door but still admitted players also deserve criticism. United went into Wednesday night's game against Galatasaray desperate for a win after losing three of their opening four group matches. Things even started well when they raced into a 2-0 lead. But Gala ended up pulling it back to 3-3 even after Scott McTominay had put United 3-1 ahead. Ten Hag's side led by two goals at two different points of the game and fans feel as though they have seen this pattern too often in Europe this season. United lost the lead twice against Galatasaray at Old Trafford on matchday two to lose 3-2 and conceded twice in the last ten minutes against Copenhagen to somehow suffer a 4-3 defeat on matchday four. Only Antwerp (15) have let in more goals than the 14 that United have shipped in five games. "I am responsible for this," Ten Hag told TNT Sports . ...

Real Madrid vs Napoli: Complete head-to-head record

Image
Real Madrid and Napoli are two sides at opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to success in Europe. The team from the Spanish capital have won the Champions League a record 14 times in the past, including five triumphs since 2014. However, Napoli have never won the com Pet ition before, their best performance coming in the 2022/23 season as they reached the quarter-finals. Real Madrid have been drawn in the same group as Napoli for the 2023/24 Champions League campaign as they aim to continue their dominance on the European stage, with the Italian side having rarely clashed with the La Liga outfit before.
