A 1-year-old boy has died and three other children were hospitalized after apparently coming into contact with an opioid at a day care center, according to the NYPD. The boy who died was identified by authorities as Nicholas Dominici. One of the three children hospitalized is in critical condition, authorities said at a press conference early Saturday. Police said they received a 911 call from a day care center reporting three unconscious children just before 3 p.m. on Friday. When police responded, they found two boys, 1 and 2 years old, and an 8-month-old girl, all unconscious, according to the NYPD. Official: Almost 80 schoolgirls poisoned, hospitalized in northern Afghanistan

An education official in northern Afghanistan says nearly 80 girls at two primary schools have been poisoned in a targeted campaign KABUL, Afghanistan -- Nearly 80 girls were poisoned and hospitalized in two separate attacks at their primary schools in northern Afghanistan, a local education official said Sunday. It is thought to be the first time this kind of assault has happened since the Taliban swept to power in August 2021 and began their crackdown on the rights and freedoms of Afghan women and girls. Girls are banned from Education beyond sixth grade, including university, and women are barred from most jobs and public spaces. The education official said the person who orchestrated the poisoning had a personal grudge but did not elaborate. The attacks took place in Sar-e-Pul province over Saturday and Sunday.
