Barcelona star misses training ahead of crunch Champions League clash with Porto

Image
Marc-Andre ter Stegen was not present in Barcelona training on Monday and faces a race against time to prove his fitness ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash with Porto. The goalkeeper withdrew from the Germany squad for this month's international break as he battled a back injury which also forced him to miss the weekend's 1-1 draw with Rayo Vallecano. Ter Stegen had hoped to return to action quickly, confirming on social media that he was "coming back soon", but it appears that comeback may not be imminent as manager Xavi revealed the goalkeeper is yet to return to training . "Tomorrow, Marc will have a fitness test," Xavi told the media. "We'll see how he is. "He hasn't trained, so tomorrow he will test to see if he is 100%." In Ter Stegen's place, Inaki Pena started against Vallecano and would likely retain his spot in the starting lineup against Porto. Ter Stegen has not trained / Mateusz Slodkowski/GettyImages LI...

New Chelsea signings take part in first training session

The second week of Chelsea's pre-season is well underway with new arrival Nicolas Jackson taking part in his first training session on Tuesday. It's all change for the Blues this summer with Mauricio Pochettino overseeing what's expected to be a gruelling summer regime as he prepares to put his new squad through their paces. Chelsea have unsurprisingly been busy in the transfer market, although they've been particularly active on the outgoings front. Kalidou Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy have ventured off to the emerging Saudi frontier, Christian Pulisic is set to join Ruben Loftus-Cheek at Milan, while Mateo Kovacic, Kai Havertz and Mason Mount have all signed for domestic rivals. Jackson and Christopher Nkunku have arrived while Malo Gusto has also been pictured in training after signing in January. He then returned to Lyon for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.
